Are You On the Tooth Fairy’s Nice List?

During the holidays, it is easy to let the little things slide. But no one wants tooth decay or gum disease as a holiday present! Here are some things to remember to keep your teeth and gums healthy as you go throughout your holiday season.

Brush: Brush your teeth for 2 minutes, two times each and every day. If you have a hard time taking the full two minutes on your teeth, try turning up some holiday music and dancing! The two minutes will speed by. If you can, turn “brushing teeth time” into family time. Brushing with your child or partner starting this week could get you about an extra 3 hours of one-on-one time before the end of 2017.

Replace: Toothbrushes need to be replaced every 3-4 months. That means you get a new one every season of the year! Don’t forget to change yours out this holiday. It may be a good idea to include a new toothbrush in your child’s or partner’s gift this year. There are many fun colors and styles available (even for adults!). Choose a toothbrush with very soft bristles that has earned the ADA Seal of Acceptance to ensure a quality product that will clean your teeth and gums, without injuring them.

Floss: Floss every day, for 2-3 minutes each time. It doesn’t matter if you floss after you brush or before you brush, as long as the flossing happens. Floss behind your back molars! Just beginning your flossing habit? Don’t be surprised if you have a little discomfort. If the discomfort lasts more than 2 weeks, contact your dentist.

Visit Your Dentist: Make sure you visit your dentist about twice a year. To schedule an appointment in Wallingford, Connecticut, call Michael P. Gaudio, D.M.D. at 203-265-3355. Dr. Michael P. Gaudio and our team look forward to seeing you!
